GHMC starts door-to-door C&D waste collection drive

A separate fleet of small and large vehicles have been hired by GHMC officials for C&D waste collection. While the mini trucks can transport six to seven tonnes of debris, the bigger ones can carry 16 to 25 tonnes

In a bid to prevent dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste in lakes and roads, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a door-to-door collection drive.

A separate fleet of small and large vehicles have been hired by GHMC officials for C&D waste collection. While the mini trucks can transport six to seven tonnes of debris, the bigger ones can carry 16 to 25 tonnes.

Across GHMC limits, about 2,000 MT of debris is generated daily and the four C&D processing plants can process 500 MT each day.

Builders as well as ordinary citizens can avail the service by contacting the local C&D waste processing agency which will deploy the truck to collect the waste at specific rates per metric tonne as per area.It is 398.50 per MT in Serilingampally, Yousufguda, RC Puram, Chandanagar, Kukatpally, Moosapet, Gajularamaram and Quthbullapur circles. The price is 388.75 per MT in LB Nagar, Saroornagar, Uppal, Hayathnagar, Malakpet, Amberpet and Santhoshnagar circles. In circles such as Charminar, Falaknuma, Chandrayangutta, Karwan, Goshamahal, Rajendranagar, Mehdipatnam and Jubilee Hills, the C&D waste will be collected at 405 per MT.

Officials said that builders looking to save money can transport the debris by themselves which will bring down the user charges to 99.72 per MT.

GHMC had previously announced that the C&D processing contractors were authorised to levy penalties against anyone found dumping debris in lakes, roads, vacant lands, nalas etc. Citizens can lodge complaints on the myGHMC app or Twitter.
