The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has implemented a significant relief initiative by declaring a complete 100% waiver on interest and penalties for property tax defaulters, effective immediately and lasting until March 31, 2026.
This initiative, introduced under the newly sanctioned “Bihar Municipal Property Tax Incentive Scheme for Interest and Penalty Waiver ā 2025,” mandates that property owners pay solely the principal amount of their outstanding property tax for the financial year 2025-26 and prior years, and that payment must be made in a single lump-sum to fully settle their arrears.
The scheme has been authorized following a notification from the urban development and housing department of the government of Bihar, and it is intended to function as a One Time Settlement (OTS) for long-standing property tax disputes.
The waiver is applicable to all types of property within PMC jurisdiction, including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and properties owned by both central and state governments. Notably, taxpayers with cases pending in any court or tribunal can also take advantage of the scheme, provided they present written evidence of having withdrawn their case.
Properties that have not yet completed self-assessment for holding numbers are also eligible; in such cases, assessment will be conducted according to standards set by the PMC. PMC has encouraged all property owners to seize this limited-time opportunity to settle their dues.
Concurrently, the corporation has issued a stern warning. “Every payment and the associated details will be subject to verification,” it stated. The PMC emphasized that any attempt to “provide false information or conceal facts” will result in the cancellation of the waiver and further legal action as stipulated by law.
