Four-fold increase in funds allocated to Nagaland

The 15th Finance Commission has made a provision of INR 4,773 crore for Nagaland in 2022-23, as compared to INR 1,283 crore that were allocated in 2009-10.

There has been a four-fold increase in the funds allocated to Nagaland during the eight years from 2014 to 2022 by the Government of India as compared to the period of 2004-2014.

This information was shared by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah at the inauguration of five developmental works worth INR 52 crore in the state on January 6.

Giving out the details, the minister informed that the 15th Finance Commission has made a provision of INR 4,773 crore for Nagaland in 2022-23, while only INR 1,283 crore were allocated in 2009-10. Additionally, a special assistance of INR 219 crore has been given to Nagaland in 2021-22, said Shah.

Speaking of further developments in Nagaland, the minister informed that the state recently got its second railway station, the Dhansari-Shokhuvi railway line, for the first time after 100 years. Additionally, 15 national highway projects, covering a length of over 266-km at the tune of INR 4127 crore have been inaugurated previously along with the continuous enhancement of public facilities, Shah added.

The inaugurated projects include 12.5 megawatt (MV) sub-station at Chiephobozou at a cost of INR 14 crore, trekking and base camp at Mount Saramati, Thanamir village and Kiphire and two-lane bridge on Doyang River at a cost of INR 28 crore near to the Governor’s Camp Lifayan, Virtual Reality (VR) laboratories in 42 government higher secondary schools at a cost INR 8 crore and Atal Tinkering Labs built at a cost of INR 1 crore 80 lakh in 9 government higher secondary schools.

According to Shah, the government has achieved success in its goal of establishing the three P’s of ‘Peace, Progress and Prosperity’ in Nagaland and several initiatives including infrastructure projects have been initiated to make the NorthEast a mainstream region of India.

The event was attended by Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, among other dignitaries.
