Facade lighting to be soon mandatory for highrise buildings

In the first phase, lights will be installed on buildings along both sides of the 105m wide road in front of the Greater Noida authority’s office and a 130m wide stretch connecting Greater Noida with Noida Extension.

Façade lighting will soon be made mandatory for highrise buildings along major roads of Greater Noida. The local authority, officials said, is working on a policy that will require 40% of the building’s façade to be lit up at night.

In the first phase, lights will be installed on buildings along both sides of the 105m wide road in front of the Greater Noida authority’s office and a 130m wide stretch connecting Greater Noida with Noida Extension.

The road in front of the authority office in Knowledge Park IV houses several commercial outlets in the Alpha and Delta sectors. The 22km road linking Greater Noida and Noida Extension has several offices and highrise apartments.

The move is in keeping with the authority’s plans to beautify the city. Instructions have been given to paint the roundabouts and other public places with vibrant colours. During a review meeting recently, Greater Noida authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari instructed officials to prepare a policy on façade lighting.

“It will enhance the city’s look. These lights can be installed at a gap of 500 metres. Educational institutions, group housing projects and corporate offices will be asked to install lights on the side of buildings facing the main road,” she said.

In August this year, the Noida Authority had made facade lighting mandatory on buildings off the Noida-Greater Noida expressway. The lights have to be installed on at least 40% of the facade facing the road.

According to the Noida policy, building owners will have four months from the date a letter is issued to them to install the lights. The clause of putting up lights has to be included in the layouts of all buildings off the expressway. Without it, the layouts will not be approved.

Allotments cancelled

The Greater Noida authority has cancelled the land allotment of two educational institutions over mounting dues. Around Rs 50.6 crore, including premium and lease rent, was outstanding for both the plots. No construction has been done on them.

Additional CEO Aditi Singh said Priyadarshini College of Computer Science had been allotted 28,750sqm in Knowledge Park 1 in 1999. Although it had to deposit about Rs 25.7 crore with the authority, it had so far paid only about Rs 2.2 crore.

Around 20,000sqm allotted to Soho Food and Beverages (Soho Mascot Foundation) in Techzone 7 in 2014 was also cancelled. The Greater Noida Educational Institute was supposed to come up on the plot. About Rs 20 crore premium and Rs 4.8 crore lease rent was due for Soho.
