Draft of revised master plan for Mangaluru to be ready in two months

Muda commissioner N Bhaskar told TOI that the authority has been working on the revised plan as per the guidelines of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

A draft of the revised master plan for Mangaluru City, which is being prepared by the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda), is likely to be ready in two months.

The new master plan for Mangaluru will be published only after hearing people’s objections to the draft. Muda commissioner N Bhaskar told that the authority has been working on the revised plan as per the guidelines of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

“The process of revising the master plan is being taken up through a consultancy appointed by the state government. It has prepared a base map and the same has already been submitted to the Urban Monitoring Cell (UMC) of the government. UMC has suggested a few changes in the base map, and we are working on the same. A draft of the master plan will be published soon after we receive an approval for the base map,” he said, adding that the authority will have to finalise the master plan in two months.

“Once the draft of the master plan is approved by the government, there will be a 60 days’ period for the public to file objections. After hearing all objections, a final draft of the master plan will be prepared and the same will be sent to the government. After receiving the government approval, the master plan will be finalised,” he said.

In fact, Muda has not added any additional areas to the existing master plan. The revised one will have jurisdictions, including Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits, Ullal city municipality, Someshwar town municipality, town panchayats of Kotekar, Mulky and Bajpe, Bhaskar said.

Ravishankar Mijar, former chairman of Muda, said the master plan, the work on which was taken up during his tenure, will help plan the development of the city.

On the post of Muda’s chairman, Mijar said the government is likely to reinstate his appointment. “The government had dissolved the authority before the completion of my term,” he said.
