The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the opening of Urdaneta by-pass road in Pangasinan, Philippines.
The new 7.17km by-pass road crosses two major road intersections of Urdaneta-Dagupan Road and Urdaneta-Manaoag Provincial Road.
The PHP1.885bn ($39.19m) project includes the construction of six new lanes portland concrete cement pavement along with sidewalk, drainage and slope protection, as well as the installation of solar streetlights.
It also involves the construction of four permanent bridges along the bypass road to reduce travel time between Villasis town proper to Binalonan.
The four bridges include the 90.90 meters Macalong Bridge, 70.90 meters Mitura Bridge 1, 36.76 meters Mitura Bridge 2, and 60.90 meters Camantiles Bridge.
As part of the future developments of the bypass road, a bike lane will also be constructed as an off-carriageway improvement to the project.
In a separate development, DPWH has also announced the completion of bridge replacement works in San Emilio, Ilocos Sur.
As part of an effort to enhance structural integrity of bridges, two temporary bridges were replaced with permanent bridges at Baang Bridge in Barangay Cabaroan and Tiagan Bridge in the Barangay Tiagan region.
DPWH Secretary Mark A Villar said: “The replacement of Baang and Tiagan Bridge from the temporary bailey to permanent concrete ensures the safety and improve mobility of not just residents but also agricultural products to the upland municipalities.
“With these permanent and sturdier bridges, we can expect faster delivery of goods and services that will help boost the economy as well as provide more livelihood opportunities for the locals in the area.”
The 30-lineal-metre Baang Bridge in Barangay Cabaroan was completed with an investment of PHP27.3m ($567,805) and the 20-lineal-metre Tiagan Bridge in Barangay Tiagan was completed with an amount of PHP18m ($374,377).
