The Directorate General of GST Intelligence’s (DGGI) Surat unearthed tax evasion to the tune of Rs 2 crore by a real estate group in Dindoli area.
Sources said that the Rajmahal Developer’s office in Dindoli was raided by the DGGI sleuths on Thursday. The team uncovered that the group is involved in massive evasion of GST. The builder group has constructed a commercial project in Dindoli and that majority of the project was sold out.
During the raid, the DGGI officials seized incriminating documents substantiating the huge amount of tax evasion to the tune of RS 2 crore. The real estate group is registered under GST, but they were not depositing the tax amount deducted from their customers to the government exchequer.
An officer said, “The primary evasion has been estimated at Rs 2 crore. We have seized documents and other data from their computers. A detailed scrutiny may increase the tax evasion amount.”
He added, “The builder group has paid Rs 10 lakh and has promised to pay the rest of the evaded tax amount in the stipulated time frame.”
