The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation(KDMC) on Thursday, February 11, demolished 42 buildings. This development came across as the buildings were obstructing the street outside — from Malang Road to Ulhasnagar boundary in Kalyan (East). With this demolition, the civic body paved the way for road widening.
As per the instructions of KDMC Dr Vijay Suryavanshi and Divisional Deputy Commissioner (D Ward) Anant Kadam, 5/D Ward Officer Vasant Bhongade and Deputy Engineer Prashant Bhujbal in collaboration with Anti-Encroachment Squad in 5/D and 4/J Ward took action to remove the obstructions in the 30-meter road from Malang Road to Ulhasnagar boundary in Kalyan East.
This road is 2.4 kilometers long and 30 meters (100 feet) wide. The road is parallel to the Poona-Link road and once the widening is completed, the traffic on the Poona-Link road will be alleviated. Similarly, in the 9/I ward of BMC, Piswali area, Ward Officer Sandeep Rokade with the help of Anti-Encroachment Squad and Police Squad took action to evict 10 illegal building constructions and eight floors.
Last month, the Bombay High Court lauded KDMC as it had demolished 10,000 illegal structures over five years and said that it ‘seems to be proactive’. The observation by a bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni was made while hearing a suo motu PIL following the Bhiwandi building collapse on September 21, 2020, that claimed 39 lives.
