Conciliation forums resolved 1,749 or 32% homebuyers’ complaints: MahaRERA

The Conciliation Forums set up by the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has resolved over 1,749 matters between homebuyers and real estate developers across the state.

With this, of the 5,958 complaints filed with MahaRERA, around 32% have been resolved through these 52 Conciliation Forums in the state, often leading to mutually agreed-upon settlements, MahaRERA said.

Other states including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana have also implemented similar initiatives and many other states are in discussions with MahaRERA to understand this initiative.

“MahaRERA takes every effort to proactively resolve various types of complaints received from homebuyers. During the first hearing of the case, to explore the possibility of the grievance getting amicably and mutually resolved between the homebuyer and developer, the former is provided with the alternative to opt for a resolution through the Conciliation Forum. This option is adopted only if both the parties are willing to proceed,” said Manoj Saunik, chairman, MahaRERA.According to him, if the complainant agrees, their grievance can be resolved within 60 days or, in exceptional circumstances, within 90 days. In case of a deadlock for whichever reason, the complainant always has the option to reapproach MahaRERA. The rights and merits of the cases remain intact.
