The Coimbatore Corporation has asked the residents to link their ration card details with the property tax number before January 31, 2023.
Commercial building owners have been asked to link their PAN card details or GST number with the property tax number.
Similarly, people who have rented/leased corporation properties have been asked to link their PAN card details or GST number with the rental/lease allocation number.
Corporation commissioner M Prathap said residents could do the linking by visiting the respective zonal offices. A dedicated centre will function in the zonal offices for this purpose starting from Monday onwards. People need to carry a copy of ration card and property tax book. The centre will function between 9am and 4pm on working days.
Similarly, commercial building owners should carry property tax books and documents pertaining to PAN and GST.
A corporation official said that a circulation for linking had been received from the commissionerate of municipal administration recently. “We do not know yet the purpose of linking ration cards and property tax numbers. All we know is that it is being done based on the instruction from the finance department,” he said.
He said that if they have GST or PAN card details they can collect information pertaining to their income. If a commercial building owner says that he does not have wherewithal to pay property tax, they can counter the claim using the details obtained through PAN or GST.
