CM Himanta Biswa reviews Rs 300 cr infra project for AMCH

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday reviewed the master plan for an ambitious Rs 300 crore development project at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

The project, which includes the construction of a state-of-the-art residential colony and modern facilities, is set to redefine the infrastructure of the oldest medical college in the northeast, established in 1947.

Sarma chaired a crucial meeting at the CM’s secretariat in Dibrugarh, where he reviewed the detailed plans for the project. The meeting was attended by state power minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh DC Bikram Kairi, SP Rakesh Reddy, AMCH principal and chief superintendent Dr Sanjeeb Kakati and senior officials from the Public Works Department (PWD).The ambitious project envisions the replacement of outdated residential facilities with modern accommodation for college staff and students.

The plan includes new residences for the principal, vice principal, senior professors, junior professors, and third and fourth-grade employees. Additionally, the project will feature new boys’ and girls’ hostels, GNM quarters, and a convention center, among other facilities. Emphasis has been placed on ensuring that all basic and advanced amenities are integrated into the new structures to meet the evolving needs of the institution.

“Assam Medical College and Hospital is not just an institution, it is a legacy that has served the people of the northeast for decades. This Rs 300 crore project is a step towards modernising its infrastructure and ensuring that it continues to provide world-class healthcare and education. We will ensure that the project is completed swiftly and efficiently,” Sarma said.

The CM stressed the need for seamless integration of the new facilities with AMCH’s future requirements.

“As the premier medical institution in the northeast, AMCH deserves infrastructure that matches its historical importance. We must ensure that the new residential colony and other facilities are equipped with all modern amenities. This will not only enhance the living condition of the staff and students but also attract top talent to the institution,” he added.

AMCH principal Dr Sanjeeb Kakati expressed his gratitude for govt’s initiative.
