Civic bodies to approve planning permission for larger buildings

Earlier, the civic body was allowed to give planning permission for ground plus first floor or stilt plus two floors.

Months after the state government notified the Tamil Nadu Common Building Rules, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has delegated powers to the Greater Chennai Corporation and local bodies around the city to approve planning permission for larger buildings.

According to an order issued by CMDA to the Greater Chennai Corporation, the local body can give the nod for plan approvals for all residential buildings with a height up to 12 metre or up to 10,000 square feet with ground + two floors or stilt + 3 floors, which are not more than 16 dwelling units.

Earlier, the civic body was allowed to give planning permission for ground plus first floor or stilt plus two floors.

Welcoming the development, Builders Association of India, Southern Centre, said the move would be a boost for the real estate sector.
