The Navi Mumbai Anti-corruption bureau team has arrested a Cidco official attached to Navi Mumbai International Airport Rehabilitation department after he was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs3 lakh as a first instalment of the Rs 7 lakh bribe demanded from a PAP beneficiary on Thursday afternoon at Cidco office.
The accused identified as Mukund Banda (57), a class-2 officer, who is the area officer had demanded Rs 7 Lakh bribe from the complainant project affected person (PAP) for forwarding his application for the approval for his eligibility of the Cidco plot that he was to receive as compensation for his house that was acquired by Cidco in the Navi Mumbai International Airport Rehabilitation scheme.
Jyoti Deshmukh, deputy Superintendent of police, ACB said, “On March 2, we had received a complaint from a PAP residing in Kamothe alleging that the Cidco official Mukund Banda was demanding a bribe of Rs 7 lakh from him for official work. We carried out verification of the complainant on March 13 and March 14 as per our official proceedings. On Thursday around 12.15 pm, we laid a trap by telling the complainant to meet the Cidco official Banda, who had called him to the Cidco office at Cidco Bhavan CBD-Belapur for paying him first instalment of Rs 3 Lakh from the demanded bribe of Rs 7 lakh.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and the Cidco official Banda was caught red handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs 3 lakh bribe from the complainant. As per our official process, we had marked the currency with a chemical powder as evidence of fingerprints to confirm that the accused had accepted the bribe.”
