The allottees will be required to pay a monthly rent of Rs 3,000 which will go up biennially by 8%. The total rental period will be for a maximum 25 years.

The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has finalised the schedule for relocating residents of pre-fab shelters in sectors 52 and 56 to its EWS flats in Maloya I.

A senior CHB official said arrangements are being made to hand over possession of flats from November 15. Officers from the municipal corporation (MC) and UT electricity department will join for release of water and electricity connection on the day of possession itself.

The project will be implemented under the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) scheme of the Centre. The allottees will be required to pay a monthly rent of Rs 3,000 which will go up biennially by 8%. The total rental period will be for a maximum 25 years.

A public notice issued on October 15 invited objections to the list of occupants uploaded on the official website of the CHB. The last date for submission of objections was October 22. A total of 508 objections were received. A camp will be organised on the CHB premises in Sector 9 D on October 26. The list of occupants of 1,692 pre-fab shelters in Sector 52 and 69 pre-fab shelters in Sector 56 had been prepared for the allotment.

The construction of the flats in Maloya had begun in June 2014 at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

The CHB is the nodal body for the construction of rehabilitation colonies. So far, it has built 12,736 of the 25,728 flats proposed. Of these, around 12,000 were built in Sector 38 (W), Sector 49, Dhanas, Mauli Jagran II and Ram Darbar. The administration rehabilitates slumdwellers after conducting a biometric survey. The colonies resettled in the last 10 years include Colony No 5, Nehru Colony, Kuldeep Colony and Mazdoor Colony.
