In a relief to around 50,000 allottees, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is all set to end the tatkal scheme and the residents will no longer have to pay a fee ranging between Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh for speedy work.
Sources said the board has submitted a proposal to UT adviser Dharam Pal, who is also the CHB chairman, that it has started providing online timely and speedy services therefore the tatkal facility was no longer required.
The board had, in 2015, started the tatkal service for transfer of dwelling units and fixed Rs 50,000 as fee in addition to all other applicable charges. It was decided that the board will transfer the unit in the name of the applicant within five days.
In 2016, the board extended the tatkal services to the allottees of commercial properties for a fee of Rs 1 lakh for convenience shops and small booths and Rs 2 lakh for bay shops and shop-cum-flats. The board had decided that the shops will be transferred within seven working days.
Tatkal service was aimed at providing fast and time-bound services as at the time there was a lot of backlog. Now the board has cleared almost all pendency of the recovery section and moved to online mode to reduce unnecessary delays. The NIC has customised the online module for 13 services of the board.
