CHB demolishes 17 illegal structures in 20 days

These structures were demolished at Ram Darbar, Daddumajra and Sector 45. Officials recently submitted a progress report on these demolitions.

In the last around 20 days, Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has demolished 17 illegal structures in the city. These structures were demolished at Ram Darbar, Daddumajra and Sector 45. Officials recently submitted a progress report on these demolitions.

A senior CHB official told that in these cases, the board calculates cost of demolition, which will be recovered from allottees. In case of non-payment, their allotments are liable to be cancelled.

To ensure effective actions against fresh illegal and unauthorised constructions, CHB is adopting a zero tolerance policy. The enforcement squad of the Chandigarh Housing Board is making daily inspections in all sectors to identify fresh violations.

On the spot challans are being issued by the enforcement squad with the direction to immediately stop further construction and remove the same. After issuance of challans, repeated inspections are carried out to see whether further constructions have been stopped. Photographs of the constructions are also taken. If further constructions are stopped and the allottee starts removing violations, then the CHB waits three days before taking up demolition work.

However, if further constructions are not stopped, then the demolition may be carried out immediately without waiting a single day. In case of demolitions by the CHB either immediately or after three days, the cost of demolition will be recovered from the allottee.

CHB CEO Yashpal Garg said that though required precautions are taken during the demolition, there is a possibility that adjoining structures may get damaged and in such an event the alloteee will be responsible for such extra damage to own or adjoining units. All allottees who have been issued challans/demolition notices against fresh constructions are requested to remove these violations immediately to avoid demolition by the Chandigarh Housing Board, he said.
