In a first of its kind major move against commercial tax defaulters of the city, the municipal corporation on Friday evening pasted sealing-cum-attachment notices at 50 commercial properties for not paying property tax worth lakhs after serving multiple notices to them.
Significantly, majority of these tax defaulters’ properties are situated in key commercial areas of the northern part of the city namely Sectors 7, 8, 9, 11, 20 etc.
“These defaulter properties are comprising of shop-cum-offices, shop-cum-flats and booths. As per the sealing notice, now if the occupiers of these defaulter properties do not pay tax within 15 days, their buildings will be sealed without any further notice to them and they won’t be given any opportunity,” said a senior official of the MC.
“Besides the normal recovery notices to these defaulters, we had sent them final notices also to give them optimum opportunity to pay the tax money, but they turned reluctant, which forced us to serve them sealing notice,” he added.
