Expressing serious displeasure at the state government, the Centre has asked it to complete the works on Tidco houses immediately and hand over them to the beneficiaries.
The state government has been struggling to raise Rs 8,000 crore to complete the pending works. The state government launched nearly 2.86 lakh houses through Tidco (urban housing) almost seven years ago and is unable to hand over the units to the eligible poor.
With the state government keep postponing the schedule to complete the work, the Centre directed the Tidco authorities to stick to the next deadline and hand over the houses to the beneficiaries.
The state government has been delaying the completion of the pending works due to the paucity of funds.
Subsequently, YSRCP government reviewed the entire project and cancelled about 51,000 housing units citing irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries.
The state government had also promised to give all the flats with 300 sft free of cost and fixed very nominal costs on other flats.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had directed the officials to ready at least 1.5 lakh houses for distribution by last December itself. Subsequently, the deadline has been extended to Sankranti festival in January and then to Ugadi in March.
