Chief General Manager of highway authority in Gandhinagar was arrested in connection with a bribery case of Rs 10 lakh
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested the Chief General Manager (Tech) & Regional Officer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Gandhinagar in connection with a bribery case of Rs 10 lakh.
The agency also arrested another person representing a Mumbai-based private company in the case.
A case was registered against NHAI’s CGM Digvijay Mishra, TP Singh of M/s GHV (India) Pvt Ltd in Mumbai, Jahid Vijapura, MD of M/s GHV (India) Pvt. Ltd Mumbai, Shivpal Singh Chaudhari, MD of M/s New India Contractors and Developers Pvt Ltd in Ahmedabad, RB Singh, GM of M/s MKC Infrastructure Ltd in Gandhinagar, Ankur Malhotra of M/s New India Contractors and Developers Pvt Ltd in Ahmedabad; as well as unknown public servants and unknown private persons.
The complaint alleged that the CGM of NHAI in connivance with other accused, including representatives of private companies working on NHAI Projects under his jurisdiction, was showing undue favour in the issuance of completion certificates, processing of bills and smooth progression of the awarded works.
It was further alleged that the company officials were in contact with the Regional Officer of NHAI, Gandhinagar for obtaining favours through illegal means, especially in respect of their ongoing project Package-I (Ahmedabad-Dholera from KM 0.00 to KM 22.00); Package-II (Ahmedabad-Dholera from KM 22.00 to KM 48.52) and RE Wall (reinforced earth wall used for sustaining soil laterally so that it can be retained at different levels on both sides of the carriageway) as well as EOT (Extension of Time) matter of Package-III Construction (Ahmedabad-Dholera from KM 48.52 to KM 71.06).
The complaint further alleged that in pursuance of the said conspiracy, the representative of the private company, as per the directions of CGM / RO, NHAI agreed to come to his residence at Gandhinagar. The company representative was also allegedly collecting the payment to be paid to the NHAI officer, on behalf of other companies too.
The CBI laid a trap and apprehended the representative of the private company & the CGM of NHAI and recovered the bribery amount of Rs 10 lakh from the residence of the NHAI officer.
A statement on Friday said that searches were conducted at the premises of the accused and others at Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh and Jaipur. Cash of Rs 20.5 lakh (approx) was recovered during searches from the premises of said CGM.
