The Maharashtra government is set to launch a campaign aimed at updating 7/12 land title records starting April 1, as announced by state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule during a session in the Legislative Council on Monday. This initiative, which began as a pilot program in Chikhli, Buldhana district on March 1, has now been expanded statewide due to favorable responses, he noted.
The campaign, referred to as the “Live 7/12” initiative, involves updating inheritance records in land ownership documents, specifically for deceased landholders. This will help address the issues faced by heirs in agricultural transactions, he said.
Based on the response of the pilot, the state government released an official directive on March 19 to implement the campaign in all districts starting April 1, aiming to finalize the updates within roughly six weeks.Bawankule urged all members of the council to support the campaign by engaging local tehsildars and sub-divisional officers to ensure effective participation at the regional level.
