BBMP-Plans to digitalise all its property registers by March 2024

The Palike is planning to take 5,100 hand-written registers mainly from the Revenue Department and digitise them. Often hand-written papers are vulnerable to the test of time and sometimes not legible.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) plans to have all its hand-written property registers made available in digital format by March 2024.

The Palike is planning to take 5,100 hand-written registers mainly from the Revenue Department and digitise them. Often hand-written papers are vulnerable to the test of time and sometimes not legible. The new digital version will provide for easier readability and preservation for longer intervals.

BBMP has invited a request for a proposal for the scanning and digitisation of property records in property registers. Palike wants to scan and digitise the property registers (both A and B) containing tax records of BBMP within 5,100 hand-written registers. The bidders will have to scan and digitise the documents at 6,000 DPI.

Palike plans to complete the work by March 2024. An official from the BBMP Revenue Department will verify the accuracy of the work. Further, in the future, if the Palike demands to accumulate or port the data, the service providers will be held responsible for the task.

“We are planning to digitise the registers which will be executed soon. The exact method for scanning and digitising will be decided by the Special Commissioner Revenue,” said a BBMP official.

Previously, BBMP was planning to digitise the records using its internal team and now it has decided to outsource the work to a service provider. Under the Nanna Swathu initiative, BBMP officials also have been visiting door-to-door in an effort to digitise property records.

The measure is being executed to verify the property evading BBMP taxes, building violations, etc. In this regard, BBMP officials are asking citizens to hand over property tax receipts and BESCOM bills. The measure is expected to bring more tax revenue for BBMP.
