The civic body will invite agencies who can prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and carry out the construction of a township under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (PMAY)-Urban.
In the general body meeting, on members’ insistence, deputy municipal commissioner Sumant More was called to present the status of an affordable housing project of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation under the PMAY-U. More said the AMC has identified land for raising a township in Teesgaon.
“The AMC had written to the district collector on January 8 for acquisition of that land for Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), the third component of PMAY-U. Following the receipt from the district collector, the process for preparing DPR will be done and then the project will be raised under public-private partnership,” More said.
BJP member Raju Shinde said the approval from district collector is likely to come soon. He proposed that in the meantime, the AMC should begin the process of issuing tender. “The PMAY-U scheme aims to provide housing for all by 2022. To achieve this, the AMC must invite bids from an agency which can prepare the DPR and complete the project,” Shinde said.
Subsequently, Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele asked More to initiate the tender process within seven days in the way Shinde suggested. “The process should be initiated before the model code of conduct is implemented for the AMC election,” mayor said.
House leader Vikas Jain asked the AMC administration to ensure that the criteria laid out by the Centre are met with while issuing the tender. More said that once the site is approved, the land measurement has to be carried out.
