The government of Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned the construction of the Chilakapalem-Ramabhadrapuram-Rayagada (CRR) road, which is a vital infrastructure initiative designed to enhance connectivity between North Andhra and the adjacent state of Odisha.
This project, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,172 crore, will be executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) hybrid annuity model (HAM), with construction anticipated to commence shortly. The CRR road will cover a distance of 131 km, linking the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Parvathipuram-Manyam with Odisha, and is part of a broader effort to develop three significant roads in North Andhra.
The other two proposed roads, Vizianagaram-Palakonda via Rajam (72 km) and Kalingapatnam-Parvathipuram via Rayagada (108 km), were not approved due to their inability to meet the criteria for commercial viability.
Officials from the state’s Roads & Buildings department have prepared comprehensive project reports (DPRs) for all three roads, with the CRR road being approved owing to its strategic significance. This advancement represents a crucial move towards enhancing regional infrastructure and facilitating more efficient transport and trade between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
