The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to release a new standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding the establishment of ready mix concrete (RMC) plants within the city.

This new SOP will require all RMC plants to secure appropriate registration and authorization prior to construction. This initiative follows a similar action taken by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), which published its inaugural SOP for both on-site and off-site RMC plants in its jurisdiction on April 9, 2025.

During a standing committee meeting on May 22, the civic body resolved to move all RMC plants away from residential areas to mitigate air pollution, in response to complaints regarding dust and emissions from these facilities. Consequently, the new SOP will forbid the establishment of RMC plants in residential zones.

Officials from the AMC stated that the updated guidelines are designed to lower air pollution levels in densely populated regions and to enforce stricter adherence to environmental regulations. Once these measures are put into effect, unauthorized RMC plants operating in residential areas will be subject to closure.
