Mohali EWS housing project to have new brickless technology

The state cabinet had notified the Punjab EWS Housing policy in August 2021, according to which Gmada will construct houses using a brickless technology.

Hanging fire for almost a decade, the housing society project for the economically weaker section (EWS) has finally kicked off in Mohali as the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) has hired a consultant for the project.

The state cabinet had notified the Punjab EWS Housing policy in August 2021, according to which Gmada will construct houses using a brickless technology. In the first phase, Gmada will construct 5,000 dwelling units, said Gmada chief administrator Rajiv Gupta.

A public sector undertaking of GoI has been recently engaged through open selection process as project management consultant (PMC) for this project for end-to-end execution of the project with basic steps, including developing web portal to invite applications, analysing market demand, monitoring all construction activity, ensuring quality of the same and keeping a strict vigil until handing it over to respective RWA.

The EWS housing policy was approved by the cabinet on March 9, 2021. As many as 25,000 EWS houses would be constructed by the Special Urban Planning and Development Authorities under the umbrella of housing and urban development department. According to the policy, Gmada will charge only the construction cost for the flats to be given to the EWS families, excluding the land cost.

In total, Gmada will construct 22,000 flats for EWS for which the authority has already acquired 230 acres of land for the project. The Gmada chief administrator said, “A consultant has been hired to prepare the blueprints. The DRP is also ready and the estimate cost of the project is being calculated. The policy for the same was already approved by the Punjab cabinet in 2021.”
