Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials have identified lands to be acquired for the Jagatpura-Bassi Link Road project and forwarded a proposal to the district administration to initiate acquisition process.
“This project was announced a long time back. We prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in 2019. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot announced the project again in his speech for the 2022-23 Budget,” said a senior JDA official.
The proposed 600-km Jagatpura-Bassi Link Road will run parallel to Jaipur-Delhi railway line. It will connect Jaipur near Jagatpura railway overbridge and Agra Highway at Bassi. The road will pass through Goner, Ramsingh Pura Phatak and the Bassi railway crossing.
Officials said that in 1996 the then Congress government had announced this project to facilitate the residents of southern part of the city in localities like Jagatpura, Mansarovar, Pratap Nagar, Sanganer and parts of Malviya Nagar.
“However, for several reasons the project did not make any headway. Finally, in 2019 a private firm prepared a DPR. Hopefully, following CM’s announcement, we will get some financial clearance this time. So, the process of acquisition has been initiated,” another JDA official stated.
The proposed 200-feet wide road will connect southern parts of the city with Agra Road and will reduce the distance by 10-12 km.
