VSP inaugurates series of commissioning activities

The CMD of RINL- Vizag Steel Plant (VSP), PK Rath, inaugurated the series of commissioning activities for the plants' new Cake Oven Battery- 5 which costs Rs 2,500 crores.

On Wednesday the CMD of RINL- Vizag Steel Plant (VSP), PK Rath, inaugurated the series of commissioning activities for the plants’ new Cake Oven Battery- 5 which costs Rs 2,500 crores. The inauguration of the pumping operations for a new water reservoir (KBR2) and the commissioning of the LPG-2 plant were also done by him.

The COB-5 has a capacity of producing 8.40 tons of furnace grade coke per year which serves as the prime raw material for the production of hot metal and was constructed along with the batteries for Rs. 2,500 crores. The charging of the batteries will be taken up after achieving the required temperature a process due to take about three months.

RINL also spent Rs 465.85 crore to build the Kaniti Balancing Reservoir (KBR) -2 with 12.32 million cubic meters capacity as an additional water storage facility to cater to enhanced levels of production. With this, the reservoir water storage capacity at RINL has increased to 65 days at a production level of 7.3 million tonnes per annum of liquid steel. Another Rs 15 crore was spent by RINL-VSP to augment its LPG storage capacity by constructing a mounded facility(LPG storage plant-2)

Rath also inaugurated RINL’s new retail outlet at Peda Gantyada developed for Rs 4.36 crore on five acres with a storage capacity of 16,000 metric tonnes of steel and having a 100 MT weighbridge. The outlet will facilitate the delivery of material to smaller buyers, customized in length and ready to use at the site. It will have finished products like cuts, bends, and stirrups, etc, and act as an additional distribution channel to sustain sales in alternate market segments and ensure delivery of material at customers’ doorsteps.
