A project worth Rs 913.7 crore has received approval for the construction of a six-lane elevated flyover on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway, with the objective of enhancing traffic flow and mitigating disruptions during floods in Kolhapur.
The flyover, which will extend 3.5 km, will cross the Panchaganga river and is intended to facilitate smoother travel for those heading to Kolhapur city. Union Minister for Highways, Nitin Gadkari, remarked that the elevated corridor would improve both traffic safety and efficiency.
He emphasized, “The construction of a 3.578 km-long six-lane elevated corridor over the Panchaganga river near Kolhapur, on the Kagal-Satara Road on National Highway 48 in Maharashtra, is approved with a provision of Rs 913.70 crore.”
This project encompasses a six-lane cement service road, the development of Gandhinagar Junction, and two underpasses to enable traffic to circumvent the railway line. The highway plays a crucial role in linking major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru, rendering the project vital for long-term infrastructure advancement.
