The civic body in Maharashtra’s Thane city has collected Rs 556.19 crore in property tax for the fiscal year 2025-26, falling short of its target by over Rs 200 crore, as reported by an official on Friday.
Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has mandated stringent measures against defaulters, given that the civic body has not achieved its goal of Rs 841 crore, according to the official.
According to an official statement, the Majiwada-Manpada ward achieved the highest property tax collection, amounting to Rs 175.01 crore, followed by Vartak Nagar with Rs 88.77 crore and Naupada-Kopri with Rs 74.12 crore.
After a review meeting held earlier this week, the commissioner has instructed officials to discontinue water supply to defaulters residing in residential buildings and has ordered the confiscation and sealing of non-residential properties that have not settled their dues, as stated by the official. He also mentioned that special tax payment camps will be organized in large housing complexes to enhance collections.
