The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has commenced the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed metro extension that will link Bengaluru to Tumakuru.
The corridor is set to initiate at Madavara, which is the northern terminal of the current Green Line, and will extend to Tumakuru, encompassing a total distance of 59.60 km. This project, which will feature 25 stations, is projected to incur a cost of Rs 20,649 crore. The consultancy firm, Aarvee Engineering Consultants, has been contracted to develop the DPR for a fee not exceeding Rs 1.2 crore.
This endeavor is a component of Namma Metroās Phase 4 expansion, and the report will concentrate on ground surveys, traffic analysis, and preliminary assessments. Furthermore, the project will incorporate an alternative analysis report (AAR) to assess all feasible transport options.
While the objective of the project is to enhance connectivity, some experts and members of the public have proposed that a suburban rail line could serve as a more economical alternative.
