The Gujarat government has approved a budget of Rs 2,609 crore for the resurfacing and related works of roads managed by Panchayats throughout the state, with the objective of reinforcing the rural road network and providing all-weather connectivity.

As part of this initiative, a total of 1,258 roads, covering a distance of 4,196 km, will undergo upgrades. In the northern region of Gujarat, 487 roads spanning 1,609 km will be enhanced, while the southern region will see improvements on 499 roads over 1,528 km. Additionally, Saurashtra will have 272 roads, covering 1,059 km, upgraded.

This initiative is a response to the requests from local representatives and rural communities who are advocating for durable, year-round roads. Officials have indicated that this initiative will improve connectivity within villages, facilitate transportation to nearby towns and cities, and bolster economic activities.

The enhancement of road infrastructure is anticipated to promote mobility, encourage trade, and contribute to the overall development of Gujarat’s rural areas. The government has underscored that fortifying rural roads is a crucial measure in fostering socio-economic growth and ensuring sustainable access for residents throughout the state, thereby enhancing both convenience and economic prospects.
