Property owners in the newly incorporated areas of Naini, Jhunsi, Phaphamau, Jhalwa, and Bamrauli will be obligated to pay house tax to the municipal corporation beginning this financial year.
This regulation impacts approximately 125,000 buildings within these expanded urban regions, marking their first entry into the municipal tax framework. To benefit from self-tax assessment, owners must submit their property details. Following a review of this information, the corporation will adjust the tax bill based on a survey of the buildings within the urban boundaries.
As the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation plans to issue house tax bills to all property owners in the extended city area during the first week of May, there has been a request from first-time taxpayers for a revision of the house tax. After considering this matter, it was determined that to revise the house tax under the self-tax scheme, owners must include a photograph along with their property details or form. If necessary, the corporation will also conduct inspections of the properties.
PK Dwivedi, the chief tax assessment officer of PMC, stated, “A survey of the buildings within the urban limits has been conducted. There may have been inaccuracies in the survey. If the building owner provides the necessary details along with the self-tax form, we will rectify any errors that may exist.” In the previous financial year, house tax was levied on approximately 45,000 buildings in the expanded area, which has developed in accordance with city standards.
Around 9,000 building owners have paid their house tax. Those who failed to pay the tax from the last financial year will incur interest on the outstanding balance. This group of 45,000 homeowners is in addition to the 125,000 houses that will soon receive tax bills. PMC will also offer a 10% discount to building owners who pay their house tax by July 31. “If there are any pending house tax payments from the last financial year, owners will be required to pay interest on the outstanding amount in accordance with the Municipal Corporation Act,” Dwivedi added.
The house tax bills for 240,000 homeowners in the older urban area have been uploaded to the portal, and a physical copy will also be mailed to the homeowners. This time, the distribution of house tax bills will prioritize areas where homeowners utilize the portal less frequently. Property owners can conveniently pay their house tax online by scanning the QR code provided on their bills. To make a payment, owners should visit the Municipal Corporation’s official website at www.allahabadmc.gov.in. The corporation provides various payment methods, including online transactions and cash payments.
