The Southern Railways has greenlit the building of railway overbridges at three locations within the Parassala constituency, marking a significant development for the area. The overbridges will be constructed at Parasuvaikkal, Eythukondankani, and Kannankuzhi.
These overbridges will be built at major railway crossings, specifically at Eythukondankani on the Amaravila-Karakkonam Road and Kannankuzhi on the Amaravila-Ottasekharamangalam Road. Additionally, the existing overbridge at Parasuvaikkal will undergo renovation.
The Amaravila-Karakonam and Amaravila-Ottasekharamangalam roads are already being upgraded with funds from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). While the state govt had previously submitted proposals to the railway ministry for these overbridges, permission was initially denied due to the ongoing Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram railway line doubling project.However, following direct discussions between Parassala MLA C K Hareendran, MP V Sivadasan, and the Union railway minister, the railway agreed to the demand for the overbridges.
The railway ministry granted preliminary approval as part of the Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram railway line project.
Initially, a subway had been proposed for the area, but the state govt opposed this due to the region’s topography, which would make the construction impractical. These concerns were communicated to the Union ministry, leading to the decision to prioritise overbridges instead.
After a recent meeting between Hareendran, Sivadasan, and Central Railway Board chairman Satish Kumar, Southern Railway was instructed to proceed with the construction of the new overbridges at Eythukondankani and Kannankuzhi, along with the renovation of the Parasuvaikkal overbridge.
