The registration department’s 27 offices in the city cleared over 90% of 13,500 pending leave-and-licence applications in four days ending Friday, bringing much relief to citizens hassled by the delays in online enrolments.
The speedy process followed the joint district registrar’s circular on Monday directing the registration officials to trim the document pendency to 50 at each office.
“Of the 27 offices, 24 had a pendency of less than 50 documents on Friday, while eight had a pendency in single digit. Three offices with more pendency have been told to speed up the process,” joint district registrar Santosh Hingane said after a pendency review at the registration offices on Friday.
The leave-and-licence documents are registered online and, as per process, should be cleared within 24 hours after submission. However, citizens seeking to register the documents online had complained of the waiting period running into a fortnight and more over the last few months. Earlier, there was a technical issue due to the software.
Sachin Shingavi, the president of the association of service providers, told that the delay was spanning almost 20-25 days, especially in cities like Pune and Mumbai. Tenant Raghuvir Yadav had applied to for document registration online last week. “With the process picking up pace now, I am hoping mine too will be cleared soon,” Yadav said.
