The city corporation has completed eight smart city mission projects, including the long-pending Purathana public park project on Butterworth Road. The new faciltities will be inaugurated by chief minister M K Stalin through videoconferencing in a few weeks.
Among the completed projects are the multi-level car parking (MLCP) on West Boulevard Road and revamping of the fish market at Gandhi market. The total floor area of the renovated market was extended from 17,000sqft to 32,000sqft at 13 crore. The new shops will also be allocated for chicken and mutton stalls to make it an integrated meat and seafood centre.
Likewise, a mini vegetable market on East Boulevard Road to decentralise sales of vegetables and a multi-level car parking cum vegetable market on Kaliammankoil Road near Chathiram bus stand are also ready for inauguration. Both projects were delayed beyond the deadline due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Teppakulam laser light and sound project and two knowledge centres at Cantonment and Palakkarai are among other completed projects.
The work is continuing for an air-conditioned mall at Puthur, which was proposed at 20 crore.
