Delhi government has approved 77 major infrastructure development projects worth Rs 19,545.9 crore in the education, health and public work sectors since 2017, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday.

Delhi government has approved 77 major infrastructure development projects worth Rs 19,545.9 crore in the education, health and public work sectors since 2017, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday.

“After coming to power, it has been a priority of Delhi government to ensure the best facilities for education, health and city infrastructure. Delhi is the national capital and deserves world-class urban infrastructure. This was neglected by the previous governments,” said Sisodia.

“Delhi government cleared 77 major infrastructure development projects at the cost of Rs 19545.86 crore since 2017, along with hundreds of other small-scale projects,” the deputy CM elaborated. The Expenditure Finance Committee approves all major projects, including Delhi government’s flagship projects. There are several other small-scale projects in different sectors.

In the education sector, Delhi government approved the construction of new school buildings, over 20,000 new classrooms, sports complexes and the installation of CCTV cameras in Delhi government schools. The state government is also constructing two new campuses of Ambedkar University in Rohini and Dheerpur.

For Training and Technical Education (TTE), while keeping the requirements of students in mind, the government has constructed new academic blocks and hostels in many technical universities. Most of these projects have either been completed or are currently ongoing, said the government.

In the health sector, projects like construction of new hospitals and intensive care units were taken up. According to officials, these will take the number of hospital beds in the city to 20,000 in the national capital.

These hospitals and ICUs with state-of-the-art facilities will make quality healthcare services more accessible to Delhiites. Most of these projects have either been completed or are under way.

PWD took up projects like streetscaping in the pilot phase, construction of double-decker flyovers between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar and Azadpur and Rani Jhansi Road, flyovers at Shastri Park and extension of flyover from Ashram to DND Flyway, among others.

Other projects include Anand Vihar bus terminal-Apsara Border road and construction of flyover and elevated corridor at Loni Chowk.

Apart from these, other projects approved during this period are traffic corridor projects, including the Ashram Chowk underpass and several others across the city, various bridges and subways, the installation of nearly two lakhs CCTV cameras across the capital, free Wi-Fi and the installation of 500 national flags across the city.
