The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is set to construct 190 more houses for the economic weaker sections (EWS) of the society. The houses will come up as part of two different housing schemes in the Subhanpura along with 74 shops.
The civic body will be constructing the houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for which the Central Sanctioning cum Monitoring Committee (CSMC) has already given approvals. The houses and shops will be part of two different schemes.
A proposal has been prepared for 102 houses and 40 shops at one location in the area and 88 houses and 34 shops at a different location in Subhanpura. The houses will have two rooms and a kitchen. Each dwelling unit will have an area of 35 square foot.
The projects will come up at a cost of Rs 15.09 crore. Proposals for both the schemes have been put up before the standing committee that is likely to take a decision regarding them later this week.
