Abu Dhabi’s iconic Mina Plaza, which comprised of four 165-metre high towers, was reduced to dust and rubbles in just 10 seconds last month, claim reports.
144 floors of the plaza were successfully demolished in a record 10 seconds on November 27, reported Gulf News. It has set a new Guinness World Record of ‘tallest building demolished using explosives (controlled demolition).
The demolition involved the use of 6000 kg plastic explosives and detonator cord. Even though the procedure lasted for only 10 seconds, it changed the skyline of Abu Dhabi completely.
According to reports, the controlled implosion was done to pave the way for the redevelopment of a three million square-metre port area. It was part of the second phase of a project that involves the redevelopment of Mina Zayed.
The Mina Zayed has served as the main port of Abu Dhabi for more than 40 years. It was inaugurated back in 1972.
An announcement was made after the demolition by Abu Dhabi Media Office.
“As part of the second phase of the revitalisation of the Mina Zayed area in Abu Dhabi, Modon Properties has successfully demolished Mina Plaza Towers in 10 seconds,” the announcement said.
