In an administrative measure taken by Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), zonal commissioners will have the power to issue building licences for up to 500 sqm of residential and commercial constructions.
The move will help citizens to obtain a license for the construction of houses and other commercial complexes below 500 sqm without visiting the MCC office. Applications for building licenses, occupancy certificates and renovations may be submitted directly to the zonal commissioners. As per the existing system, only the MCC commissioner has the authority to approve applications pertaining to buildings above 250 sqm.
In a public notice, MCC commissioner Anand CL stated that considering various shortcomings in the system and the inconvenience caused to people, action has been taken to simplify the process. Accordingly, the respective zonal commissioner will have powers to decide on all applications pertaining to building licenses, occupancy certificates, renewal of licenses and renovation of buildings, within 500 sqm.
Henceforth, applications will be received at the zonal levels and zonal commissioners will approve the same based on reports from the assistant town planning officers, the commissioner stated.
The process will be done only through the Nirman 2 online software and should be completed within 15 days. Meanwhile, the process will be monitored by the joint commissioner (town planning) through monthly review meetings.
The city corporation has been receiving an average of 150 applications for building licenses and occupancy certificates per month. With the new system in place, applicants need not visit the MCC office, he added. There are three zonal offices of the MCC at Kadri, Surathkal and Lalbagh.
