VMC to build 1,255 houses for urban poor

These include two housing schemes in Bil, four in Bhayli and one in Sevasi. The civic body will spend Rs 112.74 crore on the projects.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is planning to construct 1,255 houses and 96 shops for the urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Aavas Yojana (PMAY). The houses will come up in three different locations in the newly developing areas of the city.

The seven housing projects have been proposed in Bhayli, Sevasi and Bil areas of the city.

These include two housing schemes in Bil, four in Bhayli and one in Sevasi. The civic body will spend Rs 112.74 crore on the projects.

The tendering for the projects has already been completed and the matter has been put before the standing committee of the civic body for approval. The committee had taken up the works in a meeting on June 3, but deferred taking a decision and will again take it up for discussion on Friday.

It is expected that the schemes will get a nod in the next meeting of the committee.
