VMC receives around 1.3 lakh applications under PMAY & Navaratnalu

The VMC had received 1.3 lakh applications for the affordable housing scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and under Navaratnalu, and approved 86,513 applications.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has made available the preliminary lists of beneficiaries for housing schemes at the divisional level. The civic body will also allow persons whose applications were rejected, to justify their claim, along with submission of necessary documents.

The VMC had received 1.3 lakh applications for the affordable housing scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and under Navaratnalu, and approved 86,513 applications. On Saturday, the urban community development (UCD) wing displayed the beneficiary lists for 59 constituencies under VMC limits.

“Beneficiary lists were prepared fairly and with transparency. We have decided to conduct a social audit of the list and give a chance to disqualified beneficiaries to give their version. Revenue officers were appointed to monitor the social audit process. The lists are available at pension centres at the divisional level,” said commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh, and added that the zonal commissioner will be the nodal officer for the exercise and complaint boxes will be placed at each centre.

Left parties, meanwhile, have alleged that many genuine beneficiaries have been exlcuded from the lists on grounds of frivolous reasons.

“The then TDP government raised hopes of affordable houses among the poor, but failed to fulfil its promise. This government has again accepted applications for houses under the Spandana grievance redressal programme and promised to allocate flats by Ugadi in March 2020. We are happy about the initiative but around 40,000 applications were rejected citing multiple reasons. PAN card has become mandatory and persons who filed IT returns to claim simple returns were disqualified,” said CPI city secretary Donepudi Shankar.
