Jaipur’s Walled City will follow a uniform colour and material palette in its residential and business complexes. The Heritage Cell of Jaipur submitted a detailed plan at Unesco’s Delhi office in November in this regard.
The plan has details on what colour and material specifications, starting from rolling shutters, wooden doors, signages, railings, dressing stone and a top wall, will be adopted. The colour of cast iron pipes, wiring style and lighting too have been finalised under the project.
“The colours have been designed keeping in mind the history and aesthetics of old Jaipur and to take the existing structures close to the original form. After the implementation, the uniformity of the residential and business complexes will become a delight for the visitors and its residents,” said R K Vijayvargia, chief town planner, Jaipur.
Keeping the overall aesthetics in mind, the size of the signages on buildings have to be different on the basis of floors. The signages on the second floor have to be slightly bigger in size as compared with the ground floor and those inside the corridors. The rules for the temples also have a uniform pattern. The document says that the name of the temple to be scribbled on the white background and signage should have borders and names written with Jaipur polish. The size of signages dealing with navigation is the biggest among them all to ensure that it serves its purpose.
“It also includes finer details dealing with the lighting, fixtures, seating, platers, bollards, railings, road medians and dustbins to revive its old glory. It was also decided to replace glazed glass panes by glass panes with dark brown frames. The bazaar facing mounted units and terrace encroachments will be removed too,” added Vijayvargia. The body has prepared a list of 600 structures which will undergo a change under the project.
