Thrikkakara municipality council meeting on Wednesday recommended the engineering wing to cancel the building permit given to a real estate firm for building an apartment complex on 18 acres at V M Nagar.
The council also decided to take back 2.5 acres of poramoboke land, enclosed by the builder. “The previous governing body gave the building permit to the builder for constructing the apartment complex on 18 acres. But it has been found that 11 acres of it are nilam, and 2.5 acres are poramboke land. Besides the space identified for constructing an anganwadi, many canals and byroads are passing through the 18 acres. So the council asked the engineering wing to cancel the permit,” said vice-chairman Ibrahim Kutty.
Meanwhile, the council approved the recommendation of the finance standing committee to issue notices to owners of buildings which were expanded without the permission of the local body and regularize it after collecting a fine amount. “Currently, an inspection is being conducted in such buildings. The municipality so far issued notices to 300 houses in four wards which were found expanded illegally. The fine amount will be three times higher than the building permit amount,” he said.
The council also decided to conduct a three-day Onam festival at Parade Ground in the collectorate. It has been decided to write to the government for giving approval for Rs 25 lakh for conducting the fest.
As the availability of medicine has become an issue at PHCs in Thrikkakara limit, it has been decided to conduct an emergency meeting on Friday to address the issue.
