In a rare instance, a special CBI court on Wednesday cancelled the bail granted to builder Satyen Tandon for breach of conditions after he did not furnish the surety on time, and no plea was filed for extension of time. Tandon was arrested immediately after the court’s orders and remanded to judicial custody till Friday.
Arrested in May in the scam case involving DHFL, Tandon was granted bail in July. The court had then observed that though there was prima facie evidence against him, since he had deposited Rs 4 crore, it was a mitigating factor for granting bail.
“ He was eligible to furnish surety on August 17. But neither surety was furnished nor extension was placed on behalf of the accused. On the contrary incorrect statement is made before the registry that the presiding officer of this court told the advocate that there is no need for filing extension,” the judge said.
The court said that ground existed to arrest him.
