Seven-member panel to speed up issuance of lease deeds

The team, which includes urban development and housing (UDH) department advisor GS Sandhu and local self-government (LSG) secretary Joga Ram, will take tours across the state to monitor the progress in issuance of lease deeds.

With the performance of local bodies in the state in issuing lease deeds during the Shahar campaign remaining below par, the government has now formed a team of seven senior officials to expedite the process.

The team, which includes urban development and housing (UDH) department advisor GS Sandhu and local self-government (LSG) secretary Joga Ram, will take tours across the state to monitor the progress in issuance of lease deeds.

While the state government had announced that 10 lakh lease deeds would be issued to plot owners during the Shahar campaign, local bodies across the state could manage only 3.24 lakh lease deeds.

“For the next 12 days, the newly formed team will visit local bodies across the state where performance has remained low. The schedule of the tour will be released soon,” said an official. Camps are being organised to benefit residents in urban areas, including 213 local bodies,14 urban improvement trust and three development authorities.

As per data, local bodies across the state have received 4,00,066 applications for lease deeds. Of them, 33,517 applications have been rejected and 42,355 applications are pending. “As there is six months’ time for the camps, efforts will be made to issue maximum number of lease deeds. Rejected and pending applications will be examined,” added the official.

The state Assembly had passed the Rajasthan Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2022, by voice vote in March, extending the cut-off date for converting agricultural land into non-agricultural in urban areas from June 17, 1999, to December 31, 2021. This means leases can now be given to colonies on agricultural land that have been developed before December 31, 2021.
