All sub-registrar offices in Gujarat will now work in two shifts for registration of property documents and payment of stamp duty. Each office will issue tokens to applicants for one of two shifts. Those who miss their turn will have to come in the same shift the next day.
A circular in this regard was issued by the superintendent of stamps and inspector general of registration Jenu Devan on Thursday.
The need for this circular was felt after many turned up at sub-registrar office after lunch despite outstanding tokens, which caused technical glitches and server breakdowns due to the rush in particular slots. The new system of registration will start on September 12.
According to the circular, the revenue department has introduced changes to the working pattern of its offices. “At present, an online token is allotted to an applicant for registration of documents according to jurisdiction of the sub-registrar office,” said a senior Ahmedabad collectorate official. He added that the token system divided into two shifts will be implemented from September 12.
The two shifts will be 10.30am to 2pm and 2.30pm to 5.10pm. “Tokens issued for the first shift will not be entertained in the second shift. If one misses an appointment, they may come back the following day, as according to an earlier circular, a token is valid for seven days,” said a revenue department official. He added that server breakdowns were usually due to the rush at sub-registrar offices.
