An average 2.2 lakh people travelled on Chennai metro trains in April taking the monthly total to 66.85 lakh.
A release from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd said the highest footfalls last month was recorded on April 28 (Friday, ahead of the extended weekend) when 2.68 lakh people boarded the metro trains.
The crowd at metro stations in April was comparatively lower than in March when nearly 70 lakh people travelled. However, it was higher than February footfalls when 63.69 lakh used the metro service. In January, 66.07 lakh people opted for metro trains for their commute.
In April, out of the 66.85 lakh people who boarded metro trains, 23.39 lakh people purchased QR code tickets, 39.83 lakh passengers used smartcards, 3.56 lakh used tokens, 4,136 passengers used group tickets and 1,964 commuters tapped their NCMC Singara Chennai card.
