Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday pulled up officials of civic bodies for the slow speed of lease deeds distribution in Prashasan Shehron Ke Sang campaign. He said though the government introduced hoards of amendments and decided to give lease deeds for just Rs 500, officials were dilly dallying in giving lease deeds.
He expressed regret over this apathy of officers and staff of civic bodies like JDA and municipal corporation of Jodhpur during his address in foundation stone laying ceremony of restoration work of Baiji ka Talab and strengthening sewerage network of the city.
The CM also announced the launch of Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme from September 9. He said 1.5 lakh people have already registered for the job.
“Citizens of Jodhpur working in JDA and municipal corporation here should take the initiative and give lease deeds to poor and middle class people,” said Gehlot while expressing scepticism over achieving the target of distribution of 10 lakh lease deeds due to slow pace and deliberate stalling by officials.
In a continued expression of his disappointment, the chief minister said people have regular work with patwaries, tehsildars, gram sewaks and BDOs and asked them why they were not serving people.
“We are giving you handsome salaries and have also resumed the old pension scheme, which has become a precedent in the entire country. When we are addressing every concern of yours, should you not think to work towards good governance in the state,” Gehlot said.
Referring to broken and potholed roads in Jodhpur, Gehlot warned officials that if they wanted to remain in Jodhpur, they will have to repair the roads.
Pointing to the minister in-charge of Jodhpur Subhash Garg, he asked him to take the officials to task and ensure that no road remained unrepaired.
“JDA, PWD and municipal corporation officials should think that they are posted in chief minister’s district and asked them what would people think if roads are not maintained even in the chief minister’s district,” he said.
Referring to various schemes and projects rolled out by his government, Gehlot pitched for continuity of these works even with the change of the government.
