PU Concrete Flooring – Advantages and Applications

In the last few years, the protection of concrete floors has gone from essentially nothing to a fairly sophisticated process of some type of protective coating or surfacing. The main purpose is to provide protection to the slab from deterioration or contamination or to provide functional benefits. One such flooring type is Polyurethane [PU] Concrete. Polyurethane is an extremely versatile elastomer used in countless applications worldwide. Polyurethane’s mechanical properties can be isolated and manipulated through creative chemistry which creates several unique opportunities to solve problems with performance characteristics unequalled in any other material. PU concrete floors are cast-in-situ that require no adhesives or heat welds. These fluid-applied floors become monolithic with the base concrete floor as they bond directly. Thus it eliminates the risk of cracked or separated seams.

PU concrete floorings do provide a matt finish and are insensitive to moisture in the base of the concrete floor surface. Hence these systems are ideally suitable not only as moisture-barrier underlays but also as stand-alone floor toppings that can resist high impact and abrasion and can withstand steam cleaning. The flooring system provides high-gloss, ultra-durable use in various commercial and industrial facilities. Products based upon the PU Concrete heavy-duty polyurethane resins have been used for decades of use throughout the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. These flooring systems have exceptional resistance to aggressive chemicals, heavy impact, and thermal shock. Maintaining PU concrete flooring is much easier compared to other floors such as vinyl. The excellent smooth surface helps protect against spills and stains, and routine cleaning requires very little effort. It can last for decades without peeling or cracking. If necessary, one more layer can be done over an existing epoxy floor without the fear of debonding. Polyurethane concrete also offers exceptional long-term resistance to thermal shock. The chemical and physical nature of this material is not only highly durable, but also superior at dispersing sudden changes in surface temperature.

Polyurethane Concrete can be installed directly over existing concrete and structurally sound quarry tile. It should only be installed by an experienced flooring contractor. After profiling the existing floor and removing any loose debris, polyurethane concrete will be applied in multiple layers depending on the specification chosen for the environment. Getting the right quality PU concrete product is a hard juggle, herein Neocrete comes. The company’s flooring products have blossomed from a blend of passion, design, knowledge and technique.
