Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his birthday, transferred Rs 2,044 crore as the first instalment under the PM Awas Yojana(PMAY) directly into the bank accounts of over 5.11 lakh families in Chhattisgarh for the construction of pucca houses under the scheme.
Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, along with his cabinet ministers, marked their presence at the ‘Mor Awas – Mor Adhikar’ (My House – My Right) programme organized in Raipur on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated virtually in the event. While transferring the first instalment, Modi affirmed that his government has always aimed at bringing happiness and ease into the lives of the poor and weaker sections of society.“Over the past ten years, significant success has been achieved in fulfilling this objective,” Modi said.
During the event, keys to the newly built homes, along with certificates of completion, decorative door adornments, and religious materials, were handed over to more than 23,000 urban families.
Chief minister Sai emphasized that food, clothing, and housing are the most basic needs of a person, but even decades after independence, a large number of citizens across the country still do not own a home. Through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the dream of providing homes to homeless families is being realized, he said.
“Out of 32 lakh approved houses across the country, nearly 30% have been allocated to Chhattisgarh – a significant achievement for the state. After assuming office, our government prioritized the approval of 18 lakh PMAY homes. Today, PM Modi has transferred the first instalment to the accounts of 5.11 lakh beneficiaries in Chhattisgarh,” Sai said.
The CM urged that the state government is dedicatedly working towards the implementation of this scheme, and any negligence or irregularity in its execution will not be tolerated. He warned that if any complaints, even for the misappropriation of a single rupee, arise in the implementation of PMAY, action will be taken directly against the respective district collector.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Dr Raman Singh, said, “Today marks a historic day for Chhattisgarh, bringing a new ray of hope to the lives of the homeless in the state. The promise that was made has been fulfilled. This is a significant step toward social justice and equality. In the past ten years, the central government has constructed 4 crore houses, bringing transformative change to the lives of the poor. In the Prime Minister’s third term, three crore new houses have been approved, further strengthening the scheme.”
